Fleetwood Bowls Festival

Monday 23 to Friday 27 July 2012

 

The countdown has started for entering the 33rd Fleetwood Bowling Festival and bowlers are being urged to enter quickly.

 

The playing structure for the 2012 Festival has been finalised and early rounds of both the Men’s and Ladies’ Main Singles competitions will be played on the opening

day-Monday. Bowlers can choose their start time of 9.45 am or 1.30 pm by making it clear on the entry form which session they prefer. The redevelopment of the Marine Gardens and surroundings has been completed and the Festival will go ahead as usual with greens in the Marine Gardens, Memorial Park and Fleetwood Bowling Club being used for the qualifying rounds. The last 32 in each competition will play off on Thursday (Men at 9.45 am and Ladies at 1.30 pm) and finals day is Friday. The £2840 prize fund is the same for both events and is as follows: W £1,000, R/Up £500, S/F £200, Q/F £75, L16 £40, L32 £20. The entry fee remains at £8. The Ladies and Men’s Singles winners are expected to qualify for the Champion of Champions at The Waterloo in September.

 

There will also be mixed doubles, a junior’s event and Fleetwood Shield competitions for ladies and men. Qualifying rounds for the latter will be held on Tuesday (9.45 am or 1.30 pm) and will be open to all bowlers who have entered the main competitions.

The two top players in the game, Graeme Wilson and Gary Ellis were drawn to play each other in the first round. Wilson has already won the tournament three times whilst Ellis was runner up in 2010.

Last years winner Robert Hitchen meets Lee Lawton in his opening game.
